In mid-March 2020 like many businesses on the planet Earth, the charter season came to an abrupt halt! Ironically, the sailing conditions here in Antigua became perfect ever since. I am looking out over the pristine waters as I type this, the winds are breezy, the beaches pristine, the water crystal clear and oh so blue. Occasionally I see the white cloth of a sail on the ocean and know that someone is having a special day.
On Sunday, June 2nd 2020, Gadaboat was inspected by the Central Board of Health of Antigua and Barbuda, according to their Covid 19 regulations. They have given us license to continue our day charters. We take this seriously and insure all our guests a covid free Gadaboat experience.
I am feeling a sense of joy and anticipation as I look out over the ocean and can see in my mind’s eye Gadaboat sailing along the beautiful Caribbean coastline of Antigua and Barbuda with George at the helm, Travis and myself serving our very first guests marking an end to Covid 19 restrictions. Being out on the water under sail all your senses become aware: the sun kissing your skin; the fresh air in your lungs; the colors are extraordinary; your heart just wants to hug a sea turtle; food tastes better; silence or music sounds better ….. Did you know that the only real time a world-famous rum punch tastes world famous is when you are sailing?
For everyone who has lost so much and have uncertainties about what the “new normal” means for you …. I want for you what I pray for myself “God direct my paths and keep my path straight”.
